Dear Matt,
We’re growing ever closer now
You’ll set out on your own,
To forge a path that’s right for you
Our house has been outgrown.
From the time you were a baby
My eyes would well with tears,
At just the slightest thought of life
Sped up by many years.
Each year has been a pleasure
I have no favorite one,
Your gentle spirit, ever present
Drew light from everyone.
You’re made of silent courage
Far stronger than my own,
Supporting dreams, you’ll follow
Grown from seeds, you will have sown.
Success for you, will not be gauged
By your wallet or degree,
But rather, how you live your life
With kindness and empathy.
I’m already bursting with pride
At the man you have become,
How fast and beautifully you have grown,
How truly wonderful, a son.
Stay strong, but flexible
Be cautious, but take risks too,
And when faced with certain choices
I pray that first, you’ll honor you.
So now, it seems, my part’s been played
But I’m sure the years will tell,
What a blessing to the world you are
And I’ll know, I served you well.
With all my love,
Mom
