A Poem about a Black Sheep – “The Flock”

Baa Baa, Black Sheep
Hiding behind your wool?
You’re lost, then found
But hold your ground,
Through all the push and pull.

At least you have a moniker
You’ll never be unknown,
It sure beats the forgotten
Your brand can’t be outgrown.

The ram and ewe have made their flock
Of which you are a part,
You’ve had a role, right from the start,
To be made of hearty stock.

Don’t ask to change your color
You can’t just be reborn,
As with the scarlet letter
Your black coat must be worn.

“But it seems so unfair!” you say
Somehow you think that matters?
As if how you feel, has such appeal,
The whole flock now should scatter?!

You swallow your lot and stay forgot
Or stand out, just as well
But stay here you will, so get your fill
Amongst us you will dwell.

  1. Another GREAT poem Peg!! You are soo good at taking human emotions and translating them into words. and giving the reader a story (a bit of something to think about), with a beginning, middle and end.

    1. Thanks Fred! I appreciate your feedback and support!
It’s so helpful to know that someone can understand, and better yet relate, to what you’re feeling and how you’ve expressed it! I’m so glad you shared that with me!

I'd love to know your thoughts!
