A Poem About Space – “Building Fences”

The line was drawn
I didn’t know where
Until it moved.
Then, it became a fence.

Lines in the sand are easily blurred
It only takes one warm breeze…
I, myself, like warm breezes
But, I know we need our sacred space.

The fence is nice
Thank you for building it.
Small; but easier to see
No need to strain looking for our places.

OH NO! Look what I’ve done!
In my rush to see you
I tripped over it!
I’m so sorry.
I broke our fence.

But look!
I found us a taller one!
I can’t trip over this one
And I added a swing door!
Better still!

For a time…

Then-Phew!!!
You broke it this time
Not my fault.
I came and went as…
Well….as I should.

Of course, you’re a far better builder than I.
So, now our fence is taller
And wider.
I can’t screw this one up!
Even if I tried (which I won’t).

So good for us!
Fences make good neighbors
And I like it enough.
…..Not too much.

When next our fence is broken
Can’t we just build one together?
Wouldn’t that be more fitting?
Something suitable to both?

Hey! What about a bridge instead?
That could work?!
It keeps the connection sacred, along with the space.
Or……..
Are we just building fences?
